Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reacted to recent remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who mocked his reputation for modest living.

In a post that was shared by an X user (formerly Twitter), Peter Obi stated: “They said if you have $1M, you’re a millionaire anywhere in the world and I’ve that. I’ve never claimed to be a poor man. I’m a successful businessman.”

This statement comes in response to Wike’s comment during a recent public event, where he questioned the authenticity of Obi’s well-known “one shoe, one bag” narrative, accusing him of publicly promoting simplicity while privately indulging in luxury.

Obi’s clarification has generated a wave of reactions on social media. While some critics claimed his comment contradicted his earlier modesty stance, many supporters defended him, saying his wealth is from years of successful and transparent business ventures, not public office looting
