Madame Ann-Kio Briggs has shared her strong feelings about the recent peace deal between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike. Speaking during an interview with Arise Television, Briggs said that since the announcement of the truce, she has received countless calls from people expressing disappointment and confusion.

“Since yesterday, you wouldn’t believe the amount of calls I have received, and the feelings that people are expressing… is that they have been thrown under the bus,” she said.

Briggs believes that many Rivers people feel betrayed by the agreement. She explained that the people supported Governor Fubara to stand up to political pressure, only to see him reconcile without a clear explanation.

She also criticized the idea of political godfatherism in Nigeria. According to her, once a person finishes their time in office, they should move on and allow new leaders to govern without interference. “If you have anything to offer, the people that need it will come to you,” she said.

Briggs further stated that it is wrong for a former governor to expect to continue controlling the state just because they once held power. She warned that Rivers State is just one example, and if this trend continues, other states may face similar problems.
