According to Vanguard news,the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday made a subtle comment about Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, over his claims of living a simple, humble life.
While speaking at the opening of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, Wike recalled a time during a campaign in Anambra State when he and others from the PDP visited a house where expensive champagne (Cristal Brut) was being served.
Peter Obi once said he lived a modest life,owning only one wristwatch he’d worn for 17 years and two pairs of black shoes which he always travelled with.
But Wike questioned these claims, saying, “Why do we deceive Nigerians? Why can’t we tell ourselves the simple truth?What you preach is not what you practice. And you know, we like to hear such things but that is being deceitful.”
Meanwhile,he warned Nigerians not to be fooled by politicians who say one thing but do another, adding that many who claim they care about the people are only using that image to gain power.
Wike also praised the newly launched Kugbo terminal, saying it will help reduce transport and security problems in the Nyanya-Karu area,while promising to build more terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada and assured that he is working for all FCT residents, both rich and poor.
