According to a report by Channels Television, in a speech filled with political candor and characteristic bravado, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has acknowledged that his alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cost him politically—but insists he has no regrets.

Speaking during the commissioning of a transport terminal project in Abuja, Wike said: “Mr. President, even though your support has caused me a lot of problems, a lot of enemies, I prefer it. Continue to support me. Let me have enemies. With you alone, I can handle over 20 million enemies.”

The comment, delivered to rousing applause, reflects the deepening alliance between the former Rivers State governor and President Tinubu—an alliance that has stirred controversy within both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which Wike is officially affiliated with, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) where he now wields considerable influence.

Wike also used the occasion to tout the achievements of the FCT under Tinubu’s administration, particularly in infrastructure delivery, noting: “Mr. President, you are doing something which has changed the landscape of Abuja. Any right-thinking person with a conscience will agree you have done a lot for this city.”

He added a direct challenge to critics and rival political parties: “If any previous government did what we are doing now, let them come out and say so. Nobody can claim these projects. I challenge anybody!”

In a characteristically blunt style, Wike also announced that the new transport terminal would not be managed by civil servants or politicians, citing inefficiency. Instead, private managers will handle operations to ensure sustainability and generate revenue.
