Biodun Ajiboye, Executive Secretary and CEO of the National Institute of Cultural Orientation, has downplayed the political influence of Peter Obi as a potential ally of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the opposition coalition.

Speaking on Arise News, Ajiboye dismissed Obi’s political activism as mere rhetoric without tangible results, emphasizing that “Peter Obi will keep ranting forever. He will go to the north, wear Hausa cap today, and get into the mosque”.

Ajiboye’s remarks came amid a heated debate following El-Rufai’s recent outspoken criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

El-Rufai, who left the APC to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has vowed to unseat Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections, accusing the government of economic mismanagement, insecurity, and policy failures.

In response, Ajiboye condemned El-Rufai’s attacks as driven by bitterness and personal frustration.

Ge described El-Rufai as “a rabble rouser” and a “time waster” whose claims lack credibility, noting that El-Rufai “has no understanding of loyalty” and is “deficient in character”.

Ajiboye also questioned El-Rufai’s political relevance, pointing out that the former governor “can’t even go back to Kaduna freely” due to a vote of no confidence from the state’s House of Assembly during his tenure.

Regarding the opposition coalition that El-Rufai is helping to build, Ajiboye was skeptical about its effectiveness.

He suggested that figures like Peter Obi, often touted as key opposition leaders, lack the capacity to translate their rhetoric into meaningful political change.

Ajiboye further defended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, including subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments, arguing that these measures are necessary steps toward long-term recovery despite short-term challenges.

He stressed that borrowing by the government is an investment strategy rather than mere consumption, contrasting this with El-Rufai’s harsh critique of the administration’s fiscal management.
