Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a statement shared by Al Jazeera, accused Israeli leaders of hiding in bunkers in Tel Aviv during rising tensions, calling Prime Minister Netanyahu a “war criminal” who is using war to block peaceful negotiations.
Posting on Telegram, Araghchi claimed that while Israel’s leadership takes cover, Iran is carrying out military strikes to protect its people. The attacks have intensified, including missile hits on Israeli cities like Tel Aviv. One missile recently hit a residential tower in Petah Tikva and exploded inside a bunker, killing at least two civilians.
The incident has raised serious doubts about the safety of Israeli bunkers, which have long been considered reliable. A report from Israel Hayom revealed that about 40% of Tel Aviv residents live in homes without shelters that meet current safety standards. Many older buildings lack protective spaces, and some residents have reportedly been denied entry to crowded shelters.
Iran’s military has warned that no bunker in Israel is safe and advised civilians to evacuate. This has fueled fear and criticism across Israeli society. Though Israeli law has required bomb shelters since 1951, the current missile threat is revealing major flaws in the system.
Araghchi also said a phone call from the U.S. could stop Netanyahu and reopen the path for diplomacy. He stressed that Iran isn’t looking for more bloodshed but will continue defending itself completely if needed.
