Retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor has sparked international alarm with his latest comments on social media, warning that Pakistan could transfer nuclear warheads to another Muslim country—possibly even Iran—amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Macgregor, a former senior advisor to the Trump administration and a well-known critic of U.S. foreign policy, made the statement in response to the recent outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East.
Macgregor wrote, “Let be clear, Pakistan may very well turn over Nuclear warheads to another Muslim country, especially Iran under this kind of threat. For many many years they have made it clear they would provide the Turks nuclear warheads.
“What no one expects is that a Sunni Muslim country of Pakistan, that has a certain amount of friction with Iran because it Shia Muslim state would also do the same thing for Iran, but I suspect they will.”
These remarks come as Israel launched a major offensive on Iran’s nuclear sites, leading to swift Iranian retaliation and deepening regional instability.
Turkey has already broken ranks with NATO, openly challenging Western unity and condemning support for Israel, further complicating the geopolitical landscape.
Pakistan, which possesses an estimated 170 nuclear warheads and is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has long maintained its arsenal as a deterrent against regional threats.
While Pakistan has historically had tense relations with Iran due to sectarian differences, past reports have suggested Islamabad’s willingness to share nuclear technology with Turkey.
However, any move to supply nuclear weapons to Iran would mark a dramatic shift and risk triggering a new security crisis.
Macgregor’s warning underscores fears that the current Israel-Iran conflict could spiral into a broader regional war, with nuclear proliferation risks at the forefront of international concern.
