Former National Coordinator of the Middle Belt Patriots, Zaroyi Yusuf has questioned the sincerity of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s recent political moves, accusing him of pursuing personal power rather than the interest of Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Yusuf expressed disbelief over El-Rufai’s sudden shift in tone against the government he once championed.
He said El-Rufai’s history of aggressively defending former President Muhammadu Buhari’s failures, attacking the opposition and showing disregard for Northern elders exposes the real motive behind his current push to form a political coalition.
“I look at the vehement with which they fought against the PDP,” Yusuf said. “I look at the illogicalities with which they tried to intellectualize Buhari’s failure for 8 years.
I look at how vehemently they worked to bring in this particular regime, especially the likes of Nasir El-Rufai. How he gloated, the kind of comments he made, the disrespect that some of the Northern elders suffered because of this campaign and all because you didn’t get what you want you are forming a coalition”
Yusuf added that he does not believe El-Rufai’s coalition efforts are about national interest or rescuing Nigerians from hardship, but rather an attempt to seize power after being sidelined.
“He’s not doing this because of Nigerians. He’s doing this to wrestle power, because he has been kicked out of the circle,” Yusuf said bluntly.
El-Rufai has yet to respond to the comments, but political observers note that Yusuf’s remarks reflect a growing skepticism among Nigerians regarding political realignments and so-called rescue missions.
