Honourable Terseer Ugbor has dismissed claims that recent violent attacks in Benue State are the work of local gangs or militias.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television from 5:42, Ugbor emphasized that Benue State is currently free of any known armed groups and pointed to the death of notorious militia leader Terwase Akwaza, popularly known as Gana, as the end of such activities in the state.

“Benue State does not have any kind of gang or militia. The last time Benue State had anything that looked like a militia was Gana, if you remember Gana who has been killed and his people completely wiped away,” Ugbor stated during the interview.

Gana, once the most wanted criminal in Benue State was known for his involvement in violent crimes and militia operations across the region before he was killed by security forces in 2020. Since then, Ugbor said there has been no resurgence of such organized armed groups within the state.

The lawmaker’s comments come amid rising insecurity in the region, where communities have suffered repeated attacks, often blamed on suspected herdsmen. Ugbor insisted that these assaults are not driven by any internal militia, but by external aggressors.

His remarks aim to clarify growing speculation and fears that local armed groups might be behind the violence. Ugbor urged security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting rural communities and holding attackers accountable.
