A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Terseer Ugbor, has revealed that intelligence reports indicate that the armed groups responsible for attacks in Benue State are camped in Kashimbila, a border community in neighbouring Taraba State.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television from 6:56, Ugbor disclosed that local sources and security reports have consistently pointed to Kashimbila as a key operational base for the assailants.
“There is a lot of truth in that. In my local government too, we have information that they are camped in Kashimbila, which is part of Taraba but on the border with Benue,” Ugbor stated.
The revelation adds a new dimension to the ongoing security crisis in Benue, where several communities have suffered repeated and deadly attacks over the past months. Many residents have been displaced and there are growing concerns about the porous borders between states, which allow attackers to move freely and evade capture.
Ugbor called for increased collaboration between Benue and Taraba State governments, as well as greater federal intervention, to address the security threats posed by armed elements allegedly hiding in the border areas. He also urged security agencies to take swift action in neutralizing the identified camps and preventing further attacks.
The lawmaker stressed that these are not random acts of violence but well-coordinated assaults that require a comprehensive security response.
As insecurity continues to escalate across several parts of the Middle Belt, stakeholders are calling on the federal government to enhance intelligence-sharing, deploy more security personnel to volatile regions, and ensure that those behind the violence are brought to justice.
