Dan Nwanyanwu, the national leader of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), has spoken strongly about the political situation in Rivers State. During an interview shared by SYMFONI TV from 11.55, he questioned the Supreme Court’s recent comments about 27 lawmakers who left the party that brought them into power.

According to Nwanyanwu, the Supreme Court was not even handling a case about the lawmakers. Yet, “from the blues,” he said, the court included statements about the lawmakers in its judgment. He found this strange and unfair, especially since the matter is still being handled by lower courts.

He explained that in law, courts are not supposed to rule on issues that were not brought before them. “I was taught in the law auditorium at the University of Lagos and in law school that a court cannot give judgment on what you didn’t ask for,” he said.

Nwanyanwu believes that the mention of the lawmakers in the Supreme Court’s ruling was an attempt to weaken Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s government.

He boldly challenged anyone in Nigeria to deny that the 27 lawmakers had left their party. “Let anybody in this country, man or woman, look unto heaven and say the 27 lawmakers didn’t decamp,” he said. “They’re all lying, they decamped and have lost their seats.”

Nwanyanwu ended by saying he was not preaching, but simply stating the truth.
