Former spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo has shed light on a private conversation he had with Peter Obi following the controversial national convention organized by some members of the party.

In a revealing interview on SYMFONI TV from 6:40, Okonkwo disclosed that he personally reached out to Obi to clarify his public disapproval of the convention.

According to Okonkwo, he was concerned about whether Obi’s earlier criticism of the convention was sincere or merely political posturing.

“I called Peter Obi privately and said, ‘You made this public statement, do you mean it or was it a political statement? Because I have no dog in this fight,’” Okonkwo recounted during the interview.

He went on to reveal Obi’s firm and clear response, “And then he said, ‘I meant it. Can’t you see that I did not even attend the convention?’”

The Labour Party convention had sparked controversy within the party, as it was reportedly held despite warnings and objections from key figures, including Obi. His absence from the event drew attention and fueled speculation about deepening rifts within the party’s leadership.

Okonkwo’s comments confirm that Obi stood by his public stance, refusing to participate in what he viewed as an ill-timed and divisive gathering.
