During the official distribution of 10,000 professional kits to health workers in Nigeria’s Southeast zone, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, made a personal and spirited remark that drew attention from the audience. In a video posted by Channels Television, the event, held in Enugu, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, and religious figures from the region to support healthcare development.
While addressing the crowd, Senator Tinubu shifted from her prepared speech to connect with the people on a more familiar level. She referenced her personal ties to the Igbo community, revealing that her family has long-standing connections with the Southeast. Her statement appeared to be a light-hearted response to the atmosphere in the room, and she used the moment to emphasise unity and belonging.
According to her, “So you don’t know I have Igbo in my family, so you can’t just intimidate me here. My nephew, my sister’s son, my sister was married to the late Igwe of Ichia Nocha; we used to go to Ofala all the time, and the prince’s name is Prince Obi Eze Imebu, so don’t do shakara for me here. Our religious leaders here present, the national president, the national council for women’s society…”
