According to Vanguard, the Presidency on Monday delivered a pointed critique of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, following his recent interview on Arise TV. The special adviser to the President on Policy and Communication, Daniel Bwala, took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) to express his observations. Bwala highlighted the peculiar nature of the interview, noting that it was anchored by Rufai Oseni, a member of Obi’s own Obidient movement, which perhaps explains the absence of the usual confrontational phrases such as “I put it to you” or aggressive questioning likened to “barking like a Rottweiler.” He emphasized the interview’s tone with the phrase, “if it didn’t Dey it didn’t Dey,” signaling a candid acknowledgment of what was and was not addressed.

Bwala further dissected Obi’s stance during the interview, pointing out that the Labour Party candidate surprisingly agreed with the current administration’s policies on removing subsidies and unifying the foreign exchange market. However, Obi qualified his agreement by suggesting he would have implemented these reforms “in an organized manner.” When pressed on what exactly constituted this “organized manner,” Obi’s responses appeared evasive, ultimately conceding to the government’s approach. As confirmed by Vanguard, Bwala interpreted this as evidence that the opposition’s focus is solely on gaining power, lacking any substantive alternative agenda.

The Presidency’s critique, amplified through Bwala’s comments, also underscored the significance of Oseni’s role as the anchor—suggesting that the interview’s gentle tone was a strategic choice by Obi’s camp.
