Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Umana, has claimed that the movement of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, from the PDP to the APC was not merely a defection.
According to him, it was a significant political shift because the entire PDP structure in Akwa Ibom State chose to move with the governor to the ruling party, the APC.
Speaking in an interview covered by Arise TV from 3:58, Umana Umana recalled that Governor Umo Eno had previously expressed admiration for President Tinubu and had volunteered to assist with the APC Presidential Campaign in 2027. He noted that the Akwa Ibom State Governor understood it would not be morally right to support President Tinubu and assist with his 2027 campaign while remaining in the PDP.
Umana emphasized that Governor Eno willingly chose to join the APC without any form of pressure, contrary to claims made by some individuals. He added that the unresolved crises within the PDP also contributed to the governor’s decision to defect along with his entire political structure.
His words: “I will like to say that this was not a defection by the Governor (Umo Eno). It was a movement because all members of the House of Assembly (HoA) also moved with the Governor. All chairpersons running local government councils also moved involving all the members of the House of Reps. The two Senators who were elected on the platform of the PDP also moved with the Governor”.
