In a revealing interview with Arise TV on YouTube, Chizzy Enyi, a legal practitioner and President General of the Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership, shed new light on the political rivalry between Nyesom Wike and Rotimi Amaechi, while recounting a historic political moment in Nigeria.
Speaking candidly, Enyi criticized Wike’s political maneuvering, calling him “not a straightforward man,” and instead praised Amaechi’s role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic transition in 2015. According to Enyi, the 2015 general election remains one of the most controversial in Nigeria’s history—not only because it was tightly contested between then-President Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, but because it marked the first time a sitting president was democratically removed from office.
Enyi credited this unprecedented political shift to Amaechi, who served as the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign. “That election was led by Amaechi as the campaign DG,” Enyi stated. “It was the very first time in Nigeria’s history that a sitting president was removed from office, and Amaechi successfully led that campaign.”
He added that since 2015, Amaechi has not personally contested elections but has remained politically active by supporting others. “Let me even tell Nigerians to note, apart from winning the election that removed a sitting president, Amaechi also won the senatorial election that covered him and Wike,” Enyi noted.
This statement comes amid renewed tensions between Wike and Amaechi, who have reignited their long-standing feud through sharp public criticisms. Their political rivalry continues to stir conversations across Rivers State and the national scene.
