A former senior All Progressives Congress (APC) official has launched a strong defense of the ruling party while dismissing critics, particularly targeting a former federal government official.

Chief Henry Ajomale, former Chairman of the Conference of All Progressives Congress States Chairmen and ex-chairman of APC Lagos State, made the remarks in response to recent criticisms of the party, according to a report by The Sun newspaper.

Ajomale specifically targeted Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Federal Government, questioning his credibility as a critic of the current administration.

“Who will take somebody like Babachir Lawal, the disgraced former Secretary to the Federal government in Buhari’s administration seriously? This was somebody who was ignominiously sacked by Buhari over the infamous grass-cutting fraud running into millions of naira,” Ajomale stated, referencing the corruption scandal that led to Lawal’s dismissal.

The former party chairman went further to emphasize what he sees as the severity of such corruption cases. “If it were to be in a country like China, he would have been a dead man because, in China, people involved in corruption are usually executed,” he said.

Ajomale defended the APC leadership and President Tinubu, describing them in positive terms. “APC and its leaders, including President Tinubu, are genuine patriots who are determined to transform Nigeria into a great nation,” he declared.

He pointed to recent political defections as evidence of the party’s appeal and success. “That is why you see all these politicians from other political parties, including PDP, Labour Party, NNPP, SDP, ADC, defecting to APC. They all want to join a winning team,” Ajomale concluded.
