Dr. Bashir Lamido, the leader of Arewa Summit International, reportedly advocated for all presidential candidates in the 2027 elections to come from the South West, while proposing that the South East should be given the opportunity to produce presidential candidates in 2031.

According to The Nation, he made this call during a high-level political dialogue on zoning and national cohesion held in Abuja on Friday. According to reports, Dr. Lamido emphasized that adopting such a rotational system would help foster national unity, ensure fairness, and support long-term political stability throughout Nigeria.

Dr. Bashir Lamido further emphasized that his proposal was not intended to marginalize or exclude any particular group from Nigeria’s political process. Instead, he clarified that the aim was to establish a national precedent rooted in justice, fairness, and inclusive governance, which would help foster unity and trust among the country’s diverse regions.

He said, “This is not just about politics. It’s about healing, trust-building, and showing every Nigerian that they belong to the same nation. People may ask, what about the north? It should be the turn of the north in 2031. They forget that the North has spent more years leading the country than any other region.”

Dr. Bashir Lamido stated that it was only fair to ensure balanced leadership across Nigeria’s regions. He expressed hope that in 2031, the South East would be accorded the same national consideration and opportunity that they were advocating for the South West in the 2027 elections.
