Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Musa Christopher recently addressed the serious issue of misinformation in the media. In a video shared by VOICE TV NIGERIA from 7:40, he stressed the need for quick and clear communication to combat harmful content.

Musa pointed out that with so many sources of information available, it’s crucial to act fast to ensure accurate messaging. He recognized the public’s concerns about how military successes and losses are reported. He observed that when soldiers are killed, those stories receive a lot of attention, while successes often go unnoticed.

Musa encouraged everyone to think critically about the information they encounter, warning of the dangers of sensational reporting. He raised an important question about the motivations behind negative narratives, urging society to consider the impacts of spreading misinformation.

He concluded with a strong reminder that if security forces fail, it could threaten the safety of families and communities across Nigeria.

He said,

“Sometimes, when you see our reputage, it looks as if we’re happy when troops are being killed. When we achieve success, it goes quiet, but once a soldier is killed, you will see the flashes. The question is, who are you doing that for? Always remember that if your security forces fail, you will not have a home.”
