A horrifying discovery was made in Ezeagu community in Enugu State after a teenage girl, Ukamaka Okoronkwo was rescued from a soakaway pit allegedly used for ritual killings.

The chilling details were revealed by John Okeke, leader of the local vigilance group during an interview on News Central TV.

According to Okeke, the vigilance group was on patrol when they heard the faint cries of a child coming from behind a fenced compound.

“We started hearing the voice of a child behind the fence but before then, one of them had been thrown into the pit,” Okeke said. “Ezeani, the native doctor removed knife to stab Nonso and he dodged it. By then I was already heading into the Soakaway. It was when I entered there that I saw that the corpses were too many and I screamed.”

The group had rushed to the scene and discovered that Ukamaka had been thrown into a pit believed to be used for ritual sacrifices. During the attempted rescue, the native doctor, identified as Ezeani, reportedly tried to stab a member of the group named Nonso, who narrowly escaped the attack.

Okeke’s voice shook as he described what he saw inside the pit. The bodies of several victims were allegedly found, confirming the community’s worst fears about rising disappearances.

The vigilance group immediately apprehended the suspects and handed them over to the police. Ukamaka was rescued alive and is receiving medical care.
