The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has shared some shocking truths about how Boko Haram, a terrorist group in Nigeria, has managed to survive for over 16 years. Speaking at an event, he said that the group didn’t become powerful overnight—it grew because people allowed it to.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, General Musa explained that Boko Haram started small, but instead of stopping them early, some people protected and supported them. “When you grow a monster, it will grow bigger and turn against you,” he said.

One major concern he raised was how Boko Haram gets fuel for their vehicles and weapons. “We have commercial drivers that’ll go and take full tanks, go and siphon fuel, and give them,” he said. “Sometimes they have pre-arranged locations, they siphon fuel in jerrycans, dig holes and drop it, phone them and tell them where it is. These are the people that keep them going.”

Musa stressed that terrorists can only survive if they get help from the communities. He reminded people that during the World Wars, citizens didn’t help the enemy—they cut off their supplies. “If we refuse to support them, they won’t survive,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to stop helping the group in any way and report suspicious activities. “The silence of the majority helps evil grow,” he warned.
