Meddy Olotu, a human rights activist, has spoken about the action taken by traditional leaders in Benue State following constant attacks on communities of the state by armed herdsmen.

Speaking in an interview with News Central TV from 6:58, Olotu said Benue chiefs gave armed herdsmen 14 days to leave the state. He said despite this, armed herdsmen have continued to carry out attacks on various communities in the state. He said the situation is so bad that it is the indigenous people of the state, rather than the attackers, who are now forced to flee their homes. He said just a few days ago, residents of a village called Agan, in Makurdi, were seen running away from their home for safety.

In Olotu’s words: “The Benue chiefs and with the backing of the state government said they are giving these Fulani herdsmen to leave Benue in the next 14 days. Now if you are saying they should leave Benue in the next 14 days and these guys are still (sic), in fact, right now the Benue people are the ones vacating Benue”
