Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has provided detailed insights into his fallout with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, outlining a series of meetings and broken agreements that led to their political rift.
Speaking during a TVC media parley from 1:15:37, Wike responded to criticisms from Makinde’s associates while challenging them to dispute the facts of their disagreement. “I read what one of his (Seyi Makinde) boys said, abusing me, but he didn’t deny what I said, and that is what matters,” Wike stated, addressing recent attacks on his character.
The FCT Minister dismissed personal attacks while focusing on the substantive issues behind their conflict. “It’s not about me being a spoiler, I am this and that. Those are names you can give to anybody. Deny what I said, that we did not agree and we did not meet on that.I have no issue with you raining curses on me. No problem with that. If you don’t want to be abused, don’t go into politics,” he said.
The FCT Minister revealed the extensive consultation process that preceded their disagreement, beginning with a meeting in Lagos involving several former governors. “I did not accuse Makinde; I said that we had a meeting and we had an agreement. That meeting was held, first of all, in Lagos, by myself, himself, the former governor of Abia State, the former governor of Enugu State, the former governor of Benue State,” Wike explained.
According to Wike, that initial Lagos meeting produced a consensus among the participants. “And in that meeting, we concluded, and I said, ‘Look, let’s move on, so that the party can be focused,'” he recounted.
The Minister described subsequent meetings designed to reinforce their agreement, including a planned gathering at former Senate President Bukola Saraki’s residence. “Then we came back, and there was supposed to be a meeting in the former Senate President’s house, Bukola Saraki’s house. But before that meeting, on a particular date, we also met in my house in Abuja, where we reiterated that we have agreed on this, so let’s move on,” Wike detailed.
He explained how these preliminary agreements encouraged his continued participation in party activities. “That meeting even encouraged me to also attend the meeting in Bukola Saraki’s house, where we agreed on items and items and items,” he said.
Wike identified how a meeting called by Bala Mohammed was a turning point in their relationship. He stated that during the meeting, he was encouraged to attend party meetings, which he did. However, Wike expressed disappointment when he discovered that previous agreements were not being honored, noting that the outcome differed from what was agreed upon.
He described his attempt to address the discrepancy directly with Makinde. “And by investigation, which I said, ‘Look, you are my friend,’ it is not what we agree on; then somehow it turns out different,” he concluded.
