In a recent article published by the Daily Post, Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory reaffirmed his allegiance to President Bola Tinubu while simultaneously reiterating that he will continue to be a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Even though he is currently serving in an administration that is led by Tinubu and is governed by the APC, Wike has made it abundantly plain that he would not be quitting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike asserted that fear has never been the driving force behind his political decisions, and he defended his decision to work for Tinubu while continuing to be a member of the PDP. The PDP, he compared to a house that he had helped build, and he stated that no one could ask him to leave the house. According to him, he would not permit other people to destroy what he had contributed to establishing, and he emphasised that those who are attempting to ruin the party should leave.
Wike responded and said, “I can’t do that, I’m not afraid – how will I build a house and you now ask me to vacate the play? when he was asked if he would leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”
“You, not I, will be the one to leave the house, as I was the one who built it. Should you wish to ruin a house that I constructed, I will not permit you to do so. Not only will I not leave, but I will stay there.”
The former governor of Rivers State had harsh words for members of the South-East People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of making empty threats despite the fact that they had very little political influence. Despite the fact that they are the ones making the most noise, he pointed out that some of these individuals have failed to deliver even the most fundamental electoral results for the National Democratic Party (PDP). Wike made it clear that he, on the other hand, has been successful in delivering electoral victories and has not publicly threatened anyone.
Wike stated that he will deal with the situation when the time comes, and he referred to those who are pushing early narratives as “fraudulent.” Wike was addressing the issue of internal party zoning as well as future elections. In addition to reiterating that he will remain a member of the PDP regardless of the political tension, he issued a warning that such dishonest strategies will have the opposite effect on those who implemented them.
Wike also put an end to rumours that he might run for president in 2027 by making it abundantly clear that he has no intention of running against Tinubu in that election. In his statement, he stated that he is working closely with the president and that he does not see any reason to run against someone who he is assisting in leading.
The remarks made by the minister come at a time when political realignments and ambitions are beginning to take shape in preparation for the elections that will take place in 2027. As a result of Wike’s unwavering stance, he continues to establish himself as a pivotal figure who is able to navigate between the ideologies of both parties while still remaining loyal to the administration that is currently in power.
