Mr. Chinedu Nwaibo, an eyewitness and one of the family members of Mr. Destiny Uguru, who died after a heavy billboard used for advertising fell on a tricycle where he was taking shelter from a rainfall, revealed that the incident happened after his brothers left his shop into a tricycle and he refused to go into the tricycle with them. He said that the billboard fell and injured seven people and killed one person.
Narrating the incident, Mr. Chinedu said after the rain started with wind, he and his brothers entered his shanty shop. They (his brothers) complained that his shop was not comfortable for them to take shelter and that they preferred to stay inside their tricycle that was near to the billboard, not knowing tragedy was closer to them.
According to a report by the Punch News, Mr. Chinedu, the eyewitness, said, “They complained that my shanty wasn’t a comfortable place for them to take refuge, that they preferred staying inside their tricycles near the fallen billboard. I refused to go into the tricycles with them. It wasn’t up for a long time; the billboard fell and injured seven people and killed one person.”
