Ralph Nwosu, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has revealed ongoing talks to form a coalition to oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, stating that the party is ready to lead a united front, during an interview with PUNCH.
Nwosu confirmed that key political figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, are part of the discussions.
He explained that they are engaging with Obi’s supporters and some Labour Party members who have already aligned with the ADC in states such as Kaduna, Lagos, Kwara, Kano, and Sokoto.
The ADC chairman said the coalition is still being organized but expects it to be finalized soon.
He mentioned that other past presidential contenders who believe the current path is not right for Nigeria may also join, believing this will happen within days or weeks.
On the progress of talks, Nwosu said they have shared the ADC’s 20 years of political experience and explained why many past political efforts have failed.
He highlighted the importance of rebuilding Nigeria’s economy starting from local communities.
According to him, about 75 percent of Nigerians are currently struggling.
Nwosu criticized the lack of independence for local governments, despite constitutional and Supreme Court rulings.
He said state governors have not allowed local governments to function freely, which hampers development.
“Some of them have already even collapsed their structures. The Labour Party, the Obidient groups, and the movements that support Obi have already joined the ADC in Kaduna, Lagos, Kwara, Kano, and Sokoto. As soon as we are able to tidy up the coalition initiative, you will see the people who are working with almost all of them.
If we are able to tidy up, as we pray, some of those who have contested for the presidency in the past but have now decided to come out of where they are to say this is not the path to save Nigeria, all of them will show up. It will not take months anymore before this happens. In fact, it is a matter of days and weeks. Nigeria must be rescued in 2027,” he said.
