On Wednesday, Nigerian President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the National Anthem bill 2024 into law.

The bill seeks to reinstate the old anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee.’

A final assent to the passage of the bill will bring about a shift from the now-recognised, ‘Arise O Compatriots.’

The bill was rapidly cleared by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Seeing President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu signing the bill to return the old anthem in law, former Nigerian minister of Education, dr Obiageli Ezekwesili has taken to social media to react asking if that was the priority with the current state of the country.

Oby Ezekwesili tweeted: “Wow!

So, it is a new National Anthem that is their priority?

I frankly thought it was a joke and gave it no attention.

What an egregious case of “Majoring in the Minor” this is!
