A soldier serving as part of a front-line troop in one of the forests in the north, who spoke on condition of anonymity, shared his experience during a past attack by ISWAP.

According to Punch, the soldier said the incident happened at their Forward Operation Base in Marte a few years ago. He stated that the terrorists arrived in just three Hilux vehicles and motorcycles, dressed in black. He said their CCTV cameras captured the movement of the attackers as they approached from afar. He said, “In that attack, they came with just three Hilux vehicles and bikes, wearing black, and they saw us, and we saw them from afar. Our CCTV captured them when they were coming”

The soldier said the terrorists stopped at the first gate of their base and didn’t make any move at first. He said one of them climbed on top of a Hilux vehicle and stood there watching the soldiers, while the troops also observed them from afar. He said, “So one of them came out and stood on top of their Hilux, he watched us while we were also watching from a distance”

The soldier said after a while the terrorists opened fire on them but they were able to repel the attack. He also said that their movements made it clear they had foreign trainers guiding them in the bush.
