A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has expressed his discontent over what he sees as the persistent marginalization of the North in the party’s leadership hierarchy. Sani, who previously served as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, aired his views during a recent interview on News Central TV, sparking renewed conversations about equity and zoning within the party.

Sani argued that since the formation of the PDP, the South has benefited more from presidential power, creating a deep imbalance that has left the North feeling shortchanged. He highlighted the cumulative years of leadership by southern presidents under the PDP, emphasizing that despite the North’s support base, it has not enjoyed proportional leadership opportunities.

In his remarks, “If you take a look at the PDP, the South has ruled for almost 40 years, and the North has not ruled. Obasanjo has ruled for 8 years, Goodluck Jonathan has ruled for 6 years and Umar Musa Yar’Adua has ruled for 2 years. Now, the North within the PDP is short changed.
