According to Punch, Mrs Christy Oyewole, founder of the Christy Oluwabunmi Foundation and resident in Croydon, London, has petitioned the Ogun State House of Assembly, accusing Oba Adekeye Adeyemi, the Abepa of Joga-Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area, of perpetrating a marriage scam.
She said; “I made the greatest mistake of my life when I married Oba Adekeye Adeyemi Olanrewaju after my first marriage collapsed due to incessant domestic violence.”
In her petition dated May 8, 2025, addressed to Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, Oyewole explained that she made a grave mistake marrying Oba Adeyemi after her first marriage ended due to repeated domestic violence.
She claimed the monarch assured her of helping finalize her divorce, which he apparently did, but she later found out that both the divorce and marriage certificates he gave her were forged.
Oyewole alleged that after the marriage, Oba Adeyemi exploited her financially, taking close to N65 million, jewellery valued at about N50 million, and various other items including mobile phones, all while promising to return them.
She further stated that the monarch maintained contact through calls and messages, continually giving false assurances of repayment but never following through.
Oyewole also accused the traditional ruler of isolating her from her support network by asking her to keep their relationship secret, making it difficult for her to seek assistance.
Attempts to recover her money and belongings have been unsuccessful as the monarch reportedly used his royal authority to evade accountability, even intimidating her with the help of his palace guards during confrontations.
When reached for comment on Wednesday afternoon, Oba Adeyemi answered briefly before abruptly ending the call upon learning the identity of the caller.
