Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has issued a strong rebuke to Nigerians who he claims derive satisfaction from the country’s security challenges.
In a Channels TV interview from 2:27, General Musa identified the unified approach being taken by Nigeria’s security architecture. “You can see we’re together with the National Security Advisor, the NSA, the DSS, and all other ones. So, we are working together as a team, and you can see us here, members of the armed forces working in unity, including the police, to make sure that Nigeria is peaceful, and that is our mandate, and that will work towards,” Musa stated.
The Defence Chief urged citizens to maintain vigilance against misinformation campaigns that may exaggerate security threats. “We want to appeal to all Nigerians not to get tired, and they should be wary of fake news. There’s a lot of fake news that is being spread out, making it look like we are in danger,” he cautioned. “Most of the videos being circulated are videos from other countries or old videos; they are making it look as if it is here in Nigeria.”
Gen. Musa expressed particular concern about those who appear to welcome negative developments: “I wonder why some individuals feel happy when things go bad in their country. If Nigeria is destroyed, all of us will go down.”
He called for greater civilian cooperation with security forces: “And so, it is important that we all cooperate with members of the armed forces and security agencies. If we see something that is going wrong anywhere in the country, let us report. Action will be taken, including our own personnel. If we see them doing what is not supposed to be done, they should take report, and we’ll take action.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bolstered military capabilities by inducting two cutting-edge Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters into the Nigerian Air Force fleet. The ceremony, held at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron in Abuja, formed part of celebrations marking the NAF’s 61st anniversary.
These new helicopters join Nigeria’s expanding military arsenal, which recently added Diamond-62 surveillance aircraft, T-129 ATAK helicopters, and King Air 360i platforms—all aimed at enhancing the nation’s security response capabilities.
