Labour Party Caretaker Committee Chairperson Senator Nenadi Usman has directly challenged factional party chairman Julius Abure to back up his threats to expose former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s alleged election activities.
In a Channels TV interview from 5:00, Sen. Nenadi responded firmly to Abure’s claims that he would reveal damaging information about Obi’s conduct during the 2023 presidential campaign. “I am challenging him to expose us. If you have anybody to expose, you don’t go and talk, you go and expose them,” Usman stated. “We have a lot of things about him, and that is why the people whom he did certain things to have gone to the police, and the police are investigating him, and very soon you will hear about it.”
She downplayed the significance of the party’s internal conflicts, suggesting the media has overemphasized the tensions. She framed the situation as a simple matter of democratic succession within the party. “We just need to have good leaders. Leaders who come on when people vote for them, people elect them, you come work for the party,” she explained. “When your tenure is over, you can either go for re-election or you say okay, I bow out, let others come and be elected. That is how it works.”
She criticized Abure’s apparent reluctance to relinquish his position: “But when you want to say that oh, because I worked hard for the party, why do they want me out? Your tenure is over, either go and seek re-election or you just say I’m bowing out and let younger people come and take over.”
Barrister Julius Abure had previously threatened to reveal potentially damaging information about Peter Obi and his associates that would smear their public image if they continued to challenge his leadership. Abure also claimed that Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti had personally tried to bribe him to secure the Abia state party’s gubernatorial nomination before his successful election.
