According to the Nigerian Army in a statement on Thursday, May 25, 2025, soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force launched attacks that lasted for six hours in Sambisa Forest, the stronghold of the Boko Haram insurgents, recovering equipment used to make bombs, high-calibre guns, magazines, cartridges and other items.

The Nigerian Army announced the development on its X handle on Thursday night, saying troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) conducted what it described as “aggressive patrol and clearance operation” in the Sambisa Forest between 6:00 a.m. and 12 noon.

According to the statement, the troops targeted terrorists strongholds in Garin Malam Ali, Garin Glucose and Ukuba in the forest, forcing the insurgents to flee in different directions and abandon their arms, ammunition and other supplies.

The Nigerian Army wrote: “Recovered items included various weapons and Improvised Explosive Device (IED)-making equipment. The exploitation of the Sambisa Forest is ongoing.”

The Nigerian Armed Forces have, for some years, launched consistent ground and aerial attacks against the Boko Haram insurgents, especially in Borno and Yobe states. Many of the insurgents have been killed while the military has also lost some of its men in the battle.

The Federal Government has also said on many occasions that it will not relent in the fight against insurgency until all the terrorists are wiped out.
