According to The Nation News, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is a settled matter and not open for debate.

He made this known at the Government House in Benin City during a courtesy visit by the Southsouth Monarchs’ Forum. Addressing the gathering, Governor Okpebholo urged traditional rulers fromm the South-South region to throw their weight behind President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

He stressed the vital contribution of traditional institutions to national progress and urged the monarchs to support the president’s administration, particularly in combating the security challenges facing the country.

“Our nation’s development is tied to the full involvement of our revered royal fathers,” Okpebholo said, noting that President Tinubu has been taking concrete steps to ensure the safety of Nigerians.

The governor also lauded the president’s economic strategies, saying they are aimed at reviving the nation’s economy and improving the lives of citizens.

He said: “Southsouth zone should speak with one voice, because we have our son as the President, and we all must speak with one voice to return him in 2027, to complete his tenure.”

“President Tinubu has made bold moves for Nigeria’s progress. His economic decisions are placing the country on a path of recovery and long-term development.

“He is tackling financial leakages and ensuring that resources are directed toward impactful projects. States now receive higher allocations, allowing them to focus more on developmental efforts.

“The Southsouth region must rally behind President Tinubu. He belongs to us, and he deserves to continue the work he has started. His economic policies are designed to uplift the people, and his second term is non-negotiable.”

Governor Okpebholo also commended the President’s tax reforms, which he said have helped boost government revenue, with funds being invested into national development.

He added: “The unity of the Southsouth and Nigeria at large is paramount. The role of our traditional rulers cannot be overstated—they are essential and must be accorded the respect they deserve.

“These royal fathers are deeply rooted in their communities, understand the challenges on the ground, and play a critical role in ensuring things function effectively. We must maintain the dignity of the traditional institution.

“I plan to engage other Southern governors to keep promoting respect for our royal fathers and reposition the traditional system.”

Acknowledging the various issues confronting Nigeria, Okpebholo assured the monarchs that President Tinubu is actively working to resolve them.

He appealed to the royal fathers to support efforts to curb insecurity, pointing out that suspicious individuals are infiltrating local communities, and traditional rulers can play a crucial role in identifying threats and ensuring safety.

“Timely information is essential in addressing security concerns. There must be cooperation and unity between the government and traditional institutions. We all need to speak in unison to overcome the obstacles to our progress,” he said.

On behalf of the Southsouth Monarchs’ Forum, the Vice Chairman, Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd.), who is the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom in Delta State, expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for his recognition and respect for traditional leadership.
