According to DAIlY POST,gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked the Odugbeho community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday, killing the district head, Chief Tony Adejo.

A local source, Mr. Edo Seidu disclosed that the monarch was ambushed while working on his farm around 10:00 a.m when the attackers reportedly murdered him in cold blood, took his mobile phone and other personal belongings before fleeing the scene.

Seidu added that the killers even answered the phone when attempts were made to reach the chief, confirming that he had been killed.

“I spoke with him just on Tuesday. We had planned to meet on Wednesday. When I didn’t hear from him, I tried calling him. That was when I received this shocking news,” Seidu said in disbelief.

He described the late chief as a humble and respected leader who treated everyone equally, regardless of background.

The community has been left in mourning and fear, as residents struggle to come to terms with the tragic loss of their leader. This incident adds to the growing number of violent attacks in Benue State allegedly linked to suspected herders.

As of the time of this report, efforts to get confirmation or comments from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Catherine Anene, did not answer her phone calls or respond to text messages.

The murder of Chief Adejo is the latest in a series of attacks that have affected rural communities in the state which left residents no choice but to call on the government and security agencies to act urgently to prevent further violence and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
