Iran has reaffirmed its right to develop peaceful nuclear energy, pushing back against criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement reported by Iran International English on X (formerly Twitter), Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), emphasized that the Islamic Republic is committed to the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

“It is Iran’s right to possess peaceful nuclear energy, and Trump cannot decide for our country whether we should have nuclear energy or not,” Kamalvandi stated. He underscored that the nation’s nuclear efforts are aimed solely at generating electricity and are fully aligned with international protocols.

Kamalvandi also highlighted that Iran is actively constructing nuclear power plants across the country, indicating a significant expansion of its domestic nuclear infrastructure. “We are currently constructing nuclear power plants across the country to produce nuclear electricity, and we are seriously pursuing this matter,” he said.

The statement comes amid renewed tensions over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, particularly as Western powers, including the United States, continue to express concerns about the potential for weaponization. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which placed limits on Iran’s nuclear program, was abandoned by Trump in 2018, sparking a wave of criticism and escalations.

Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are transparent and supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Officials in Tehran insist the program is essential for meeting the country’s growing energy needs and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
