Former Edo State Governor and APC leader, Adams Oshiomhole, has spoken out about recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that people are joining the party because they believe in the changes happening in their communities, not because they are desperate or looking for handouts.
In a video that was shared by Channels Television, Oshiomhole made this statement after the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, some local government chairmen, and others moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. He explained that the newcomers were inspired by the progress and development being brought about by the APC government, especially under Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“Those who are joining us didn’t join us because they are hungry,” Oshiomhole said. “They join us because they have seen what is changing in their communities.”
He criticized those who claim the APC is trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. Instead, he said, the party is focused on uniting people under a common goal of growth and good governance.
“There’s only a shared common vision,” he added. “And if Edo people say this is who we want? Who are they to tell us otherwise?”
Governor Monday Okpebholo, while canvassing support for Tinubu’s second tenure in office, added that “The fuel subsidy that one or two persons were pocketing, now Tinubu is throwing it to us, to develop the grassroots. So, such a man, how are we going to pay him, is it not to vote for him?
