Chief Dr. Fakunle Oyesanya, a well-known babalawo, is strongly against the idea of human sacrifice in money rituals. He believes that if these methods were truly effective, he would have used them himself, as everyone needs financial support.
In an interview with THE NATION, Oyesanya expresses his concerns about the risks associated with these rituals, viewing them as a tragic loss of life. He said many individuals involved often find themselves disappointed and fail to engage in meaningful work.
He shares stories of young people who go to extreme lengths to meet strange requests, like bringing back a mother’s head or body parts. According to him, spiritualists are often shocked when these individuals return with such items after several days.
Oyesanya cautions that the drive for quick wealth can lead people down dangerous paths, clouding their judgment and endangering their safety.
According to him,
“Majority of them are mere waste of precious lives. They rarely work. But of course they are usually left to wallow in their disappointment. A spiritualist, once said they sometimes give these young people uphill tasks such as ‘go and bring your mother’s head or human breasts and stuffs’, to discourage them, but that they’re usually surprised to see them show up days or weeks later with these things. I am a babalawo, and if anybody comes to me for such, I will tell them it is not possible. If indeed there is legitimate and safe money ritual, would I not have done it for myself? Who doesn’t need money?.”
