Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has asked President Bola Tinubu to control his family members, stating that Nigeria is not a private estate and accused Tinubu’s son, Seyi, of abusing power, as reported by DAILY POST.
Atiku made this statement after serious claims were made against Seyi Tinubu by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Isah.
Isah said Seyi assaulted and kidnapped him and also claimed Seyi tried to bribe him.
Atiku, through his media aide Paul Ibe, said these allegations are alarming.
He said they show a dangerous pattern that threatens democracy and civil freedom in Nigeria.
He warned that if such actions are true, they should not be taken lightly.
Atiku said using violence, threats, or bribes to gain support is wrong and harmful to the country and added that Seyi Tinubu’s actions, if proven, are a risk to national peace and democracy.
Atiku also expressed concern that some top security officials may be under the influence of Seyi Tinubu.
He called this a serious threat to Nigeria’s public institutions.
He warned against attempts to force student groups or civil organizations to support the government through fear or rewards, stating that no family should use state power for personal gain.
Atiku also said claims linking him to Atiku Isah were false and done to distract the public.
He urged Nigerians to speak out and reminded citizens that the presidency is a public office, not a family property.
He said everyone must protect democracy by holding leaders and their families accountable.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must urgently rein in his family members, particularly his son, Seyi Tinubu, who appears determined to purchase political loyalty for his father by any means necessary, including coercion, violence, and intimidation.”
“We must remind them that the presidency is a public trust, not a private inheritance,” he said.
