Public analyst Bello Osigwe has spoken strongly about the political crisis happening in Rivers State. During an interview with Silverbird TV, he shared his views on the ongoing protests and the fight between supporters of Governor Sim Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Osigwe explained that while traveling through Eleme, he met a group of women dressed in black who were protesting. He got out of his car and asked them if they were paid to protest. One of the women told him that they would rather die than take money to betray their cause. Osigwe said he was proud of them for standing firm.

However, he didn’t have the same opinion about Wike’s supporters. He said many of them were poor and desperate enough to do anything for money, blaming the political problems in Rivers State for making life harder for ordinary people.

When asked if the situation was hopeless, Osigwe said it wasn’t. He believes peace is possible if Governor Fubara stays strong and doesn’t bow to pressure. Osigwe warned that if Fubara goes back to Wike and apologizes, it would be like giving up the future of Rivers State to one man.

“The moment Fubara goes to Wike and says he’s sorry, he has sold the destiny of Rivers State to one man,” he said.

Here’s the link to the interview, it began 19.26 to 21.48 minutes into the video.

He also commented on rumors that Fubara might leave his political party. Osigwe warned that if Fubara defects, his political career could be destroyed forever.

In short, Osigwe believes that for Rivers State to move forward, Governor Fubara must stand firm and not allow anyone to control him.
