Former Delta State Governor and 2023 PDP vice presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has opened up on his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealing details of a private conversation he had with former PDP presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, regarding proposed coalition plans ahead of the 2023 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Okowa said: “Atiku called and told everything about coalition and I gave him my words but I wouldn’t say it in public.” He explained that though he assured Atiku of support, he was never comfortable with the strategy being discussed to unite opposition parties against the ruling APC.

Okowa further disclosed that his political associate and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who also recently defected to the APC, shared similar reservations about the coalition idea. According to Okowa, the plans lacked clarity and did not align with their political instincts or the realities on ground.

While he did not reveal full details of the conversation with Atiku, Okowa’s comments signal deeper internal disagreements within the PDP before his defection, possibly contributing to his eventual departure from the party.
