Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State strongly addressed Prof. Chidi Odinkalu’s criticism regarding his statements on violent attacks in the region, as reported by DAILY POST.
Odinkalu had indicated that Alia should return to the seminary for attributing the attacks to Hausa speakers from Mali.
In response, Alia termed Odinkalu’s remarks as insensitive, underscoring the need for compassion and support for victims rather than negative criticism.
His Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, noted that the priority should be to assist those impacted by the violence. Alia recognized the security issues, mentioning that federal security forces are stretched thin.
He highlighted the necessity of identifying criminal herders without generalizing about entire ethnic groups while emphasizing the urgent humanitarian crisis in Benue.
Alia expressed disappointment in Odinkalu’s remarks, asserting that they detract from efforts to support the victims.
He said,
“It will be more rational if the focus remains on the plight of the people suffering from these unprovoked terrorist attacks, rather than on sneering at the governor and his approaches.
