Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep concern over the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, stating that if he had the opportunity, he would have done everything possible to ensure that every citizen had access to their basic needs.
Speaking during an Easter event where he was honored, Jonathan shared personal reflections and emotional memories from his upbringing.
“If I have the means, I would have made sure that every Nigerian will have… though it’s not so easy, it’s not possible, it’s difficult for a president to do,” Jonathan said.
He recalled his decision to take on leadership at the state level before being drawn into national politics. “That has been my there and that is why I was very reluctant when I was approached to come to the center to be a vice president. I said look, I wanted to ba is a small state, let me see what I can do with this small state, whether I can make significant changes,” he explained.
The former president stressed his unwavering commitment to promoting peace and continuing to serve humanity as his way of serving God.
“I will continue to do my little best until, like as Ble will say, until the last day I will live on earth. I believe that is the only way I can serve God – by serving man,” Jonathan said.
While expressing gratitude for the recognition given to him, Jonathan also took time to appreciate his supporters and loved ones, emphasizing the value of humility, service, and compassion.
“I grew up in me and it’s easier to do what is in you than to learn new things. And even in a country or a world filled with crisis, I always feel sad when I see people suffering, true suffering as a child because of my humble background,” he added.
