Mrs. Oluyemi Olunloyo Buckner, the first daughter of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, offers a deeply personal and heartfelt account of life as the child of one of Nigeria’s most brilliant minds. As the former governor of Oyo State and an acclaimed mathematician, Dr. Olunloyo’s intellect cast a long shadow. Yet, to his daughter Yemi, he was simply “Daddy”—a man who loved, nurtured, and pushed his children toward excellence.
From infancy, Yemi was her father’s travel companion, journeying across Nigeria and West Africa. These early experiences planted a love for travel and broadened her horizons. Though seen as his favorite, the special bond they shared came with high expectations. Her father’s academic standards were clear. Even when she failed mathematics at her WAEC with an F9, Dr. Olunloyo didn’t react with anger but with action. At 4:30 am each day, he tutored her personally, rebuilding her understanding from the ground up. Nine months later, she scored an A1 and developed a lifelong passion for mathematics, eventually becoming a math teacher.
Yemi recalls her time in England, where her father enrolled her in a one-on-one tutorial college in Oxford to prepare for university. His desire was not just academic excellence, but global exposure. While she enjoyed the support of most siblings, rivalry with her younger sister Kemi was ever-present. Still, their father’s consistent guidance ensured each child pursued higher education, regardless of their chosen field—from engineering and architecture to culinary arts.
Addressing controversies stirred by her sister, Yemi is unapologetically honest. “Kemi is the black sheep,” she states, affirming that negative narratives about their father are false. “Our father was never involved in anything occultic. I categorically say that as his first child.”
According to NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reports, Yemi said: Kemi, has been online maligning Daddy and all that. The honest truth is that no family is devoid of dysfunction and that is what the reality of all families is. She is the black sheep of our family and she wrote some disparaging things about our Daddy. I am the first child. I know my Dad and we all have experiences living in the same house with him. So, all the stuff about occultism and all that is absolutely not true.
Among the siblings, Shola stands out as a Master Chef in the United States, combining mathematical precision with creative flair. Yemi proudly notes that the love for learning instilled by their father lives on in each of them. Would You Like To Get More News? Just Click The Button Below.
