The much-anticipated interactive session between the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight and the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), has been officially postponed. The session, earlier scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM, was shelved following a formal request by the Sole Administrator to reschedule.

The Vanguard News reports that the postponement comes at a time when public attention remains focused on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The interactive session was expected to provide insight into the current state of governance and the activities of the Sole Administrator since his controversial appointment.

According to Vanguard, the decision to invite Ibas was made during the committee’s first official meeting after being inaugurated on April 15 by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen. The committee, led by spokesperson Akin Rotimi (Jnr), emphasized its commitment to conducting full legislative oversight, as empowered by Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Rotimi explained that the session with Vice Admiral Ibas was designed to offer a clearer picture of the developments in Rivers State and address the concerns that have followed his appointment. “It is vital that the National Assembly fulfills its responsibility to the Nigerian people by ensuring accountability and transparency, especially during a period of such heightened political sensitivity,” Rotimi noted.

While no new date has been announced for the session, the delay has drawn mixed reactions from political observers and citizens alike, with many urging the committee to act swiftly and ensure that the affairs of Rivers State are handled in the public’s best interest.
