High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has reflected on the political dynamics in Rivers State, stating that despite their current differences, Nyesom Wike remains his friend. Speaking during his 54th birthday celebration, Tompolo emphasized that no Ijaw man supported Wike in installing Siminalayi Fubara as governor, yet the Ijaw nation remains committed to truth and reconciliation.
He acknowledged the need for dialogue, describing the ongoing tension as a father-and-son issue that can be resolved through honest conversation. Tompolo noted that even though Wike may have insulted them, it was the same people who helped bring him to power. He called for peaceful engagement to reconcile both Wike and Fubara, highlighting the importance of unity within the region.
He said in a video posted on X from 0:11, ‘In all of the Ijaw Nation, Wike is my friend. When he put his boy, Siminalayi Fubara, to the throne of becoming the governor of Rivers State, no Ijaw man was there. No Ijaw man supported Wike to do that job. As we are here, we are only for truth. That is when my father can accept it. Then my mother can accept it.
That is politics. No, because of that, if I don’t go to university, all over the world should not be angry. Wike, no matter how he insults us, we are the same people that installed Wike as the governor of Rivers State. Now that he is in tandem with this Saro Song and the throne name, we have to now talk to him. We need to dialogue, father and son relationship, dialogue, talk to Wike. We will bring them (Wike and Fubara) together.”
