According to Vanguard, Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has called on party members to remain fearless, emphasizing that Nigeria is on the brink of collapse and in desperate need of rescue.

He made these remarks during his address at the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Obi urged party members to “Do not fear anybody,” pointing out that those who had been afraid in the past had not achieved any better results.

He stressed the importance of raising concerns when things go wrong, asserting, “We must speak out when things are going wrong. Nigeria is collapsing. The numbers are clear; the indices are clear—people are getting poorer every day.”

Obi pointed out that these worsening conditions underscore the critical need for change in the country.

He also stressed the importance of unity and inclusion within the party, emphasizing that the Labour Party should operate as a united family.

“Labour Party has chosen to be a family, and we must do everything as a family,” he said.

Obi further clarified that leadership in the party is not about his individual preferences but rather about collective choices.

“It’s not about Peter Obi’s choice; it’s everyone’s choice. This family excludes no one. We want to build a party that is fair and just,” he affirmed.

Looking forward to future elections, Obi outlined the party’s commitment to entering upcoming elections with fully prepared and capable candidates.

He said, “We want to go into the next election fully prepared, offering Nigerians the best and most competent candidates for the House of Representatives, the Senate, Governorships, and the Presidency.”

Obi stressed that the party’s success would rely on party loyalty and the competence of its candidates.

“We want to correct the mistakes we made in the past. Anyone seeking to contest under our party must be a committed member, not just someone passing through. They must be competent.”

This statement underscored the party’s intention to prioritize dedicated, skilled, and loyal individuals for future elections.

Overall, Obi’s address highlighted both the need for urgent action to address Nigeria’s deteriorating condition and the importance of fostering unity, loyalty, and competence within the Labour Party.

His call for a fair and just party, prepared for future elections with the right candidates, sets the tone for the party’s direction as it moves forward.
