Senator Ali Ndume has sent a strong message to political allies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging them to stop focusing on the 2027 general elections and instead concentrate on the country’s pressing problems.

During an Arise TV interview on Monday, April 7, 2025, Ndume warned that the current wave of political noise about 2027 is a distraction the country cannot afford.

He stressed that President Tinubu’s government still has serious work to do and must not be sidetracked by talk of the next election cycle. According to him, Nigeria’s current situation demands full attention on three critical areas: security, citizen welfare, and the economy.

In his words, any administration that fails to get these three right cannot succeed, regardless of how loud its supporters may shout. He emphasized that these issues are deeply linked and must be addressed with urgency.

Ndume expressed concern over the premature political calculations being made by some members of the ruling class, reminding them that the president has not even completed two years in office. He argued that focusing on 2027 now shows a lack of seriousness and care for the Nigerian people.

“2027 is a year ahead, and we don’t know whether Ndume is going to be alive then or even the president. They are busy shouting about 2027. We have not even finished with the mandate,” he said.

The senator added that the Tinubu administration must first prove itself by making visible progress in restoring national security, improving the lives of ordinary citizens, and reviving the economy.

He insisted that without real changes in these areas, no political campaign or strategy for 2027 would make sense. “Three things will determine whether this government is going to succeed or not: one is security, two is the welfare of the citizens, and three, which is related to welfare, is the economy itself. If it’s not performing, then you can go and be talking nonsense. It will not work,” he stated.

Ndume’s comments reflect growing concern among Nigerians who believe that leadership must focus on governance, not just politics.
