According to a recent report by Sahara TV, Retired Major General Ishola Williams has condemned recent comments allegedly made by the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), saying such statements are unbecoming of a top security official. Williams Ishola expressed disbelief over the DG’s reported advice that Nigerians should begin protecting themselves due to the inability of security agencies to offer adequate protection.

“If it were another clime, he would be sacked that same day,” the retired general said, questioning the DG’s fitness for the role. “What is his job then?”

Speaking further, Williams lamented the persistent failure of leadership in Nigeria’s security sector. He praised a rare example from another African country where top military officers were swiftly removed following attacks from their borders, contrasting it with Nigeria’s trend of retaining officials despite recurring violence and loss of lives.

“In Nigeria, we kill people no matter how many are killed,” he said. He emphasized the need for accountability, noting that replacing non-performing officers should be a norm.

Williams also criticized the DSS boss for allegedly undermining other security agencies by claiming the Army and Police cannot protect citizens. “It’s an insult to the entire security architecture,” he said.

He concluded by highlighting the President’s delayed response to security issues, describing the situation as worsening and leaving citizens vulnerable.
