Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed visit of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to the state. In a recent report by Symfoni TV, the governor issued a directive prohibiting the use of public facilities for any such gathering without official approval from the state government.

Diri’s statement came in response to reports that George Turner and his supporters were planning to receive Wike at Tombia Roundabout. He firmly stated that Bayelsa is not part of the FCT and should not be entangled in political disputes.

The governor further instructed all security agencies to be vigilant, stressing that the proposed event must not take place in Bayelsa. He emphasized that public spaces, including schools and government-owned infrastructure, must not be used for any assembly without proper authorization. He also warned against any attempts to introduce security threats into the state, noting that both the government and security forces have worked tirelessly to maintain peace.

Reaffirming his administration’s support for President Bola Tinubu, Diri commended the federal government for awarding Phase Two of the NB Brass Road contract. He also called on the federal government to initiate additional road projects, particularly the Opuroma-Okubi-Kulama Road.

“Why should anyone attempt to create a divide between the Ijaw people and the federal government when we are already benefiting from its projects?” he questioned.

To safeguard Bayelsa’s stability, security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent any unauthorized gatherings that could disrupt the state’s peace.

His Words: ”This is not FCT, this is Bayelsa State. All service commanders should be on alert. That meeting must not take place in Bayelsa State. He can host his minister anywhere outside Bayelsa State”.
